Go for UTMB 2024! Going abroad to get running stones
Starting in 2023 (which is the UTMB World Series Finals), running stones are required to compete in the UTMB, CCC, and OCC.
I am aiming to compete in the UTMB next year, in 2024.
Unfortunately, running stones are not available in Japan, so I am considering which UTMB World Series to enter overseas.
What are the qualifications for UTMB 2024?
- Must have at least one running stone in the last two years
- Must have completed a race where the UTMB Index is in the 100K or 100M category
By fulfilling the above, you can enter the drawing.
In addition, the more Running Stones you own, the higher your chances of winning.
*If you win the lottery, the number of running stones you hold will be reset to 0.
In the case of donation entry, a donation of 2000€ (approx. 290,000 yen) is required in addition to the above eligibility requirements.
In this case, you can compete without drawing lots.
About UTMB Index

UTMB indexes that can be earned for races held in Japan can be found below.
2022 Global Running Stone Acquisition Status
Unfortunately, there are no competitions in Japan where you can win running stones.
With such a situation in the side, it seems that overseas runners are certainly earning Running Stones.
According to the UTMB e-mail, there are 50,697 runners who have won Running Stones in 2022, and the number of stones is 103,315.
Simply averaged, that means there are about 50,000 people who have earned 2 Running Stones.

Which UTMB World Series should we compete in?
In 2023, there will be 34 UTMB World Series Events worldwide.
A race that doubles the number of running stones and where transportation costs are reduced is cost-effective.
If I were to look for a race with those conditions, "Doi Inthanon Thailand by UTMB" held in December in Thailand would be my target.
However, I am not good at running in humid places 🤔.
If you don't mind the cost, maybe "Val d'Aran by UTMB" in Spain in July?
